“The ex-HMAS Adelaide will NOT be scuttled off Avoca Beach on Saturday as planned.
A last-minute legal challenge launched by the Environmental Defender’s Office on behalf of the No Ship protest movement in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal has succeeded in winning a delay on the project.
The ship was to be towed from Sydney Harbour at dawn tomorrow and anchored off Avoca Beach by 4pm tomorrow afternoon.
It will now not be towed after the tribunal granted a stay of proceedings. A full hearing on the matter will now be held at a later date.
The delay came after a lengthy all-day hearing.
A spokesman for the No Ship protestors said the tribunal had instructed the group not to make any comment on the matter.
Organisers of the scuttling event said the ship would now NOT leave Sydney for the coast as planned.”
