The NSW State Government tried to dump a 4000 tonne warship HMAS Adelaide only 1400 metres offshore from Avoca Beach in March 2010. The community said NO our ocean is not a dump and launched a long campaign which ended at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. The AAT ordered a significant amount of additional toxic pollutants be removed before it was eventually dumped in April 2011 at Avoca Beach, NSW, Australia. No ex warship scuttling had ever been contested in Australia and this case contributed significantly to the Federal government's decision to cease ship dumping in Australian waters. This website will continue to monitor the HMAS Adelaide dive site and its impact on the environment and local community. It will also disseminate information on ship dumping and the need to seek alternative methods of obsolete military equipment disposal.

Avoca Boardriders Surf Competition - March 21 Avoca Beach

Avoca Boardriders will be holding a surfing competition from 8am - 3pm this Sunday, March 21 at Avoca Beach.

The No Ship Action Group will have an information tent alongside Boardriders with a BBQ from 8am so come and watch the competition, have a snag and a chat with some committee members. We will have information available about the new research developments, internal photos of the ship and the environmental implications of the scuttling of the HMAS Adelaide. So come on down, wear red to show your support and continue our stand against the dumping of this ship in Avoca.
